Madame Marie Madeleine D’Houet sold the
contents of the family cellar in France to buy
Gumley House and found the school in Isleworth in
1841. She was a woman ahead of her time,
convinced that the world needed well educated
women. Her legacy and her spirit live on 170 years
later in this 21st century. These young women who
people the classrooms and grounds of Gumley
House are preparing to take their place in the
Universities and future Boardrooms of the world.
“At the end of Year 12 I was given the opportunity
to study geography at a 10-day residential summer
school at Eton College. Most recently, I won a
fully-funded place to attend the 10-day Global
Young Leaders Conference in Washington DC and
New York, which provided me with a new
perspective upon global affairs. Most importantly,
we are encouraged to look beyond the school
community throughout our time in the sixth form
so that we can confidently make the transition to
university or work.” Year 13 student |
